“Snow Queen” in Lutsk - Philanthropy Example
17 thousand UAH were raised to buy implant ports for Volyn children with cancer.
“Snow Queen” Christmas musical performance was held at T. Shevchenko Volyn Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre as the part of Volyn Regional Library for Youth "Arts for Life" charity project on December 22. The purpose of the performance was to raise funds to purchase implantation ports for children with cancer.
Students of art and sport clubs (Studio N.Zh., “Giselle” ballet studio, Youth Athletic Center #2 free calisthenics section, young tumblers from Youth Athletic Center #1, “Faerie” School #13 members of ballroom dances ensemble and “Lileia” College School #11, Maiaky Boarding Linguistic Lyceum school dance troupe "ONEWAY").
The event was a complete sell-out. Many adults who came to watch the show had to stand in the gangways. A lot of children came to the theatre.
“Snow Queen” of this year is the third musical performance which annually raises money for the treatment of Volyn Regional Children's Hospital oncological-hematology unit patients. The "Arts for Life" project is organised by Volyn Regional Library for Youth with charitable purposes.
“Children’s talent and sincerity are what I always admire,” says Liubov Fradynska, one of the initiators of the charity event. “It is a great joy they can wake up people’s mercy and urge to help with their kindness and warmth. We should remember that we help ourselves helping others!”
The problem of funds lack for medical equipment is the reality of oncological-hematology unit and its patients. Some equipment cost more than 10 thousand hryvnias, others - more than 500 thousand.
“We all understand that it is not the best time for our country now. But the problems of children with cancer still has not disappeared. Due to the unstable situation in Ukraine and lack of medical products state purchases things are just getting worse instead,” says Maria Adamchuk, President of Charity Foundation. “That is why I am profoundly grateful to all those who has made a contribution to treatment and support of these children. Thank you for your staying around and your help.”
Even the youngest visitors had a chance to make a real contribution to children’s treatment as the part of Christmas charity event. The fair of children’s craft works initiated by Volyn businessman-philanthropist Oleh Dmytruk was held in the theatre lobby an hour before the performance.
More than a hundred of craft works were displayed (appliques, drawings, embroideries, origami and others). The fair was attended by children between 5 and 13 years old. All works had the start price 20 hryvnias, but some of the masterpieces were so skillfully made that were sold for ten times bigger price. By the way, children of care homes displayed their works on the fair as well.
The participants of Charity Fair: Holovne special boarding school, Liublenets EC boarding school I - III degrees - Lyceum, Volodymyr-Volynskyi Specialized Boarding School “Education and socially pedagogic support centre”, Lypliany Special Boarding School. A lot of works were bought by the initiator of the fair to let every participant contribute the charity foundation.
“We have to show children that even the slightest help is important making a great thing and their kindness help much,” says Oleh Dmytruk. “I am glad that organisation of this fair helped them to remember that. My task was not just to help children with cancer but to remind people that youth can work for charitable causes too. I wanted to show Volyn entrepreneurs and officials that even students, care home children with disabilities, orphan children find a chance to do good! So no excuse for healthy successful adults! Business faces hard times now but Volyn oblast has hundreds of enterprises and companies and even a small contribution will give a chance for the ill child and his or her parents.”
The sponsors of charity event were ™ “Dmytruk”, “Port City” trade group, “Blahomed” medical centre, Lutsk Institute of Human Development “Ukraine”, Volyn Regional Television and Volyn Regional State Administration.
“Sponsors' and philanthropists' support is critical for our charity events,” says Natalia Zhuravliova, organiser of the event, the founder and creator of Studio N.Z. children’s creative activity studio. “Young actors are constantly developing their skills to make the plays more enjoyable. But they will not turn into fairy characters without professional face-paints, beautiful costumes and professional stage. Our charity events become popular, and we are ready for the bigger stage. Children performed at T.Shevchenko Volyn Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre for the first time this year. They were admired to perform at real theatre stage. We are very grateful to all those who visited our show and supported young talents in their effort to collect money for those who need it the most.”
The collected funds were passed to Charitable Foundation "STOPRAK» (stopcancer.com.ua). Implantation ports which let quickly and safely give injections and reduce the risk of infection will be purchased for children.
Meantime organisers and young actors are working hard on the new performance. A new festival of children's talent and kindness - charity concert "Christmas in Paris" is going to take place at the Palace of Culture in Lutsk January 31, 2015, at 13:00. Entrance is free.
