Volyn Regional Library for Youth together with ™ “Dmytruk” held an event “Book-intrigue” coincided with National Library day. The readers can bring more than two interesting books from their home libraries and get the book of one famous modern Ukrainian writer.

Library for Youth is one of the main centres of Lutsk cultural life. Library workers do not just serve readers but hold exciting events, initiate and actively participate in charity events.

The event “Book-intrigue” is called to get Lutsk people interested in modern Ukrainian literature. This means the possibility to exchange a few old home library books into a new one.

The event has got its name due to one feature. All books to be exchanged for old ones will be wrapped with dark paper. You can open and see what kind of book you have after librarians register readers’ books to the library collection. So you will not know what book you get to the last moment.

An essential requirement for exchange is the perfect condition of the book to change. Old, worn book will not serve readers of the library for a long time. “At first we planned just to register donated books to our collection,” says Alla Yefremova, library director. “But then together with “Dmytruk” team we’ve decided to hold an event which would popularise Ukrainian authors, help to fill the library collections and have an element of pleasant surprise for our readers. This what event “Book-intrigue” is.”

The organisers assure that readers should expect just for pleasant surprises.

“All books purchased for the event are the most demanded in the library,” says Oleh Dmytruk, the initiator of the event. “These are the books of modern Ukrainian writers: Vsevolod Nestaiko, Lina Kostenko, Andrii Kuzmenko (Kuzma Skriabin), Nadiia Humeniuk, Volodymyr Lys and others. So librarians agreed to give away donated books just for exchange into interesting books. I support the decision and believe that library collections will renew with interesting books soon.”

The event starts on October 5 and is going to run until the last book-intrigue finds its owner.
